Intern, Auto Mechanic
Position Description:
Under direct supervision of District Garage Manager, assists higher-level mechanics in maintenance, repair & replacement of major parts on cars, trucks & equipment. Uses hand & power tools in performing routine maintenance & minor repairs (e.g., changes oil & filters, replaces spark plugs, checks radiators, changes hoses, adds antifreeze, checks &/or replaces tires, lubricates vehicles & equipment, steam cleans engines & equipment). Repairs & replaces minor defective parts (e.g., hoses, distributor caps, windshield wiper blades, belts).
Uses personal computer (e.g., Equipment Management System (EMS)) to enter & retrieve fuel & oil usage data. Assists in distribution of parts, packages & interoffice mail among counties.
Delivers & picks up vehicles. Assists in inspecting state vehicles (e.g., inspects condition of tires, fan belts & hoses; checks batteries & engine oil & other fluid levels). Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned by supervisor (e.g., removes trash, ensures cleanliness & orderliness of garage area)
This is a temporary position involving various duties that will either supplement the student's major field of study and/or provide experience that is a useful addition to the student's education and meaningful preparation for future professional employment.

Qualifications
Must currently be enrolled in a college or university and in good academic standing.
Must show proof of valid driver's license in order to operate state vehicle.

Supplemental Information
The rate of pay is based upon the student's academic status:
(which is determined by the college or university.)
Freshman and Sophomore Students: $19.50 per hour
Junior and Senior Students: $20.00 per hour
Graduate Students: $24.00 per hour
This position is overtime eligible based on FLSA Standards.
Must show proof of valid driver's license in order to operate state vehicle.
Temporary appointments are unclassified pursuant to O.R.C. 124.30 (B).
