Morning News Anchor

WDAF-TV FOX4 in Kansas City is seeking a Morning News Anchor. The News Anchor serves as the primary presenter of news stories and other content for all platforms in a manner that is clear, engaging and meaningful to news consumers. This anchor position contributes to our morning ensemble,  supporting lead anchors and enhancing our newscasts’ ensemble approach. 

  • Presents news stories and content for all platforms – broadcast TV, digital and streaming shows.
  • Writes news stories and produces segments in a clear and concise manner for multiple platforms.
  • Responds to breaking news and other urgent newsrooms situations as required.
  • Ensures all news content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
  • Contributes to a collaborative environment with co-anchors and behind-the-scenes staff to create inviting, ensemble energy for viewers.
  • Assists with idea generation, research and coordination of segments.
  • Builds network of sources who supply information that allows Station to stay ahead of its competitors.
  • Conducts interviews with newsmakers and guests.
  • Acts as a field reporter as assigned.
  • Participates in promotional activities including public appearances.
  • Collaborates on special projects and other duties as assigned

Requirements & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to ad lib when required.
  • Minimum five years’ experience in news reporting or anchoring.
  • Demonstrated superior on-air presence and command of subject matter.
  • Excellent news judgment with an expansive knowledge of local and national current events, history, newsmakers and issues.
  • Experience guiding, directing and motivating others.
  • Ability to identify the developmental needs of others and to coach, mentor or otherwise help others to improve their knowledge or skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to effectively listen to fully understand problems and communicate with a team to shape a solution.
  • Proficiency with computers, editing and logging software to prepare stories.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Flexibility to work any shift.
