About this job:

Lead, facilitate, and coordinate 5th grade class overnight visits to the Balarat Outdoor Education Center. Facilitate 3rd grade day trips to Genesee Mountain Park. This includes design and development of course materials. Provide a safe learning environment in an outdoor setting, including high risk elements.

What You'll Do:

 

•Design/develop full day and overnight outdoor programs

•Monitor, supervise, coordinate and enforce rules of conduct and behavior for a class of fifth graders while they are on the Ballarat site

•Instruct a classroom of 5th grade students at Ballarat with the assistance of their classroom teacher

•Set-up, facilitate, operate, train on, and monitor safety for high elements such as the Giant Swing, Zipline, and High Ropes Course

•Coordinate and instruct 3rd grade day trips to Genesee Mountain Park

•Supervise and provide input on evaluation for high school student leaders (grades 9-12)

• Provide supervision overnight for 5th grade students. Sleep in corresponding genders dormitory overnight as the sole adult

•Keep fifth grade and high school students as well as other DPS staff safe during extended trips in the wilderness

•Develop and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, staff, bus drivers and food service personnel

•Collaborate with other Ballarat educators in evaluating programs and developing activities

•Prepare, update and organize designated student records, papers and documents, ensuring integrity and accuracy

•Maintain and ensure both the security and confidentiality of student information

•Complete all training programs satisfactorily, and attend all required meetings

•Demonstrate cultural competency while working with urban and/or diverse populations

•Must be able to lift and carry at least 20 pounds, walk more than six miles, and work outdoors in extreme temperatures

What You’ll Need:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 1+ Experience working in an outdoor education setting
  • 200 + hours working with children in a classroom or educational program
  • Candidates must be willing to attend the required Wilderness First Aid training and CPR training classes and maintain certifications throughout employment
  • Ability to work flexible schedule, including overnight stays at Balarat Outdoor Education Center
  • Candidates must be willing to attend the required Wilderness First Aid training and CPR training classes and maintain certifications throughout employment
