Quality Assurance Supervisor

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

QUALITY ASSURANCE

  • Responsible for incoming and in-process inspections, sampling, and the final testing and inspection of finished products to meet specifications and quality assurance standards
  • Responsible for maintaining all lab supplies necessary for the performance of lab functions
  • Work with HR and  Quality Assurance Manager  to maintain and manage work schedules for seasonal quality assurance staff and make scheduling adjustments to ensure adequate staffing to meet production demands
  • Work closely with production and other internal managers to determine Quality Assurance needs and resolve quality problems.  Act as liaison with the  Quality Assurance Manager on all quality assurance matters
  • Promote consciousness of quality assurance within the workforce
  • Responsible for maintaining and testing lab equipment and operating procedures.  Assure that regular calibration of lab equipment is being conducted and documented.  Bring maintenance or functionality  issues with laboratory equipment to the attention of the Quality Assurance Manager
  • Responsible for implementation of product hold policy for the Ottawa plant.  This will include product segregation, maintaining documentation, and determining final disposition of product
  • Oversee and document voluntary destruction process for all products requiring disposal from the facility
  • Work with the shipping department to prepare customer samples and Certificate of Analysis requests in a timely manner to support customer requirements.
  • Work with Quality Assurance Manager to investigate, trend, and respond to customer, consumer, and internal complaints
  • Periodic travel to other facilities as needed. (Other local facilities, all located in Wood and Putnam Co,  Ohio)

FOOD QUALITY AND SAFETY

  • Serve as Ottawa’s SQF Practitioner and PCQI
  • Assist  Quality Assurance Manager with external inspectors and auditors, such as customers,  FDA/ODA, and SQF, on food safety and other related issues as needed
  • Ensure internal audits are conducted, findings are reported to management, and items are closed out in a timely manner.
  • Serve as a member of the corporate food safety Committee & lead Ottawa’s food safety team
  • Assist with daily monitoring and enforcement of compliance to employee health and hygiene rules
  • Participate in the development,  implementation, and documentation of corporate quality assurance initiatives, including GMPs, SOPs, Forms, sSOPs, Environmental Monitoring Plan, HACCP, FSPs, FDPs, traceability, and allergen policy

RECORDKEEPING

  • Oversee maintenance of complete and accurate production and quality assurance records.  This will include preparing and supplying forms prior to production and reviewing completed forms after production
  • Maintain the plant’s Quality Control entries into the X3 database by reviewing accuracy of recent entries, working with the IT Department to resolve problems, and preparing reports as needed
  • Implement corporate FSP/HACCP programs and recordkeeping in accordance with FDA regulations

SANITATION

  • Review sanitation records for accuracy and compliance during season
  • Coordinate monitoring program for cleaning equipment such as scrub pads, brushes, and brooms.
  • Ensure sanitation process is documented accurately and completely
  • Validate cleaning/sanitation through ATP swabbing, and if needed,d allergen validation swabbing

EMPLOYEE TRAINING

  • Training of lab technicians to assist with the functions of incoming and in-process inspections, sampling, and the final testing and inspection of finished products to meet specifications and quality assurance standards.
  • Provide training to production staff, as needed, (examples: can quality awareness at palletizers, proper procedure for completing forms at fillers, proper operation of scales), and other functions relating to quality assurance
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining quality assurance and food safety training programs and ensuring all employees at the Ottawa facility are up-to-date with this training.

CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

  • Maintain a list of suggestions for recipe irregularity,  score sheets, product specs to be reviewed on a regular basis.
  • Research new trends in food safety and regulatory, and communicate findings with the Quality Assurance Manager.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, Food Engineering or related field, or 5+  years of experience working in a food manufacturing Quality Assurance Lab demonstrating core competencies and supervising a staff of lab technicians.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, analytical, statistical, and mathematical skills and abilities
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of individuals with varying educational levels and communication skills
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office products
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple projects at the same time
