Job Description Summary

Miami University's Office of Admission is seeking a highly organized, strategic, and student-centered Director of Campus Visit Experiences. This critical leadership role is responsible for the primary direction and oversight of all student recruitment efforts delivered through on-campus daily visits, large-scale events, and off-campus programming. The Director will play a vital role in ensuring the continued success of the Office of Admission in its quest to recruit students from the state of Ohio, across the US, and around the globe who will enroll and graduate from Miami’s Oxford and regional campuses.

Job Description

Strategic Vision & Leadership: Provide primary direction and strategic oversight for all campus visit experiences and recruitment events, both on and off campus, ensuring alignment with the Office of Admission's overall recruitment goals and Miami University's mission.

 

Program Design & Execution: Assume comprehensive responsibility for the successful planning, development, and execution of all aspects of daily visits, large-scale open house events, admitted student programs, and other specialized recruitment programming. This includes meticulous logistical coordination and ensuring a seamless, high-quality experience for all attendees.

 

Team Leadership & Management: Direct and empower a dedicated Campus Visits and Events team of eight full-time staff and over 140 student staff, and provide leadership for all of undergraduate admission in setting and maintaining exceptional customer service and hospitality standards. This includes active involvement in hiring, training, performance management, leading team meetings, and fostering a supportive and high-performing team environment, contributing to ongoing admission training and professional development.

 

Process Optimization & Systems Approach: Utilizing a project management platform, develop and implement consistent, efficient, and scalable processes and systems to manage the numerous moving parts involved in visit and event planning, execution, and follow-up. Foster a professional, project-management culture across the team and university partners that improves communication, meeting deadlines, and planning experience for all involved in the event planning process.

 

Data-Driven Evaluation & Innovation: Continuously monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of Admission visit and event strategies and practices. Utilize data, demographic trends, industry best practices, and other forms of quantitative and qualitative feedback to inform decisions, identify areas for improvement, and implement adaptive innovations to new and existing visit initiatives that align with greater university strategic priorities to recruit and enroll new students.

 

Stakeholder Collaboration & Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with academic departments, student services, campus partners, and external vendors to ensure integrated and impactful visit experiences. Approach all partnerships with a spirit of service, humility, gratitude, and inclusion. Work with UCM, EMSS Operations, Admission Operations, and other colleagues highly involved in the event planning process to develop, execute, monitor, and evaluate the effectiveness of visit and event communications related to visits and events. 

 

Customer Service Excellence: Ensure that all interactions with prospective students, families, and other key influencers reflect Miami University's commitment to extraordinary hospitality and transparency, upholding the highest standards of student-centeredness. Adopt a systems-approach to ensure consistent standards are met across all programs. Monitor and assess the volume and nature of phone activity and work with Enrollment Communication to proactively address emerging issues or concerns and to effectively utilize University resources to best meet customers' needs and on and off-campus staffing resources.

 

Budget Management: In conjunction with admission leadership, oversee and manage the budget allocated for campus visits and events, ensuring fiscal responsibility and optimal resource allocation.

 

Brand Representation: Ensure that all visit experiences effectively communicate the Miami brand, unique student experience, and positive outcomes, reinforcing Miami's position as a best-in-class institution.

 

Admission Responsibilities: Conduct recruitment travel, review applications, serve as counselor on duty, conduct presentations, and other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of five years of experience in admission, higher education, or a related field, with at least two years of event management experience.
  • Must be familiar with contemporary recruitment strategies, national demographic trends, and current research in the admission field. 
  • Experience working with data for the purpose of strategic decision-making
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends, and travel as required. Must be able to perform overnight travel and possess a valid driver’s license.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with computer systems and various software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Possess exceptional written and oral communication skills, have a proven record of developing relationships and building rapport with internal and external constituencies, and demonstrate the ability to successfully manage a staff to ensure a climate of collaboration and teamwork, while encouraging professional development and continued improvement at the same time. 
  • Must be able to provide leadership and mentoring, but work independently and handle multiple tasks simultaneously, as well.
