POSITION SUMMARY
The Finance/Accounting Intern will support the finance and accounting operations for the Housing Authority by assisting with a range of accounting and administrative tasks. This position offers valuable hands-on experience in public sector finance, providing exposure to general accounting operations within a mission-driven organization. The person in this position will be expected to support the duties of all other Accounting Analysts and HAP Accounting Specialists.

Essential Function Summaries
- Process invoices, including verifying expenses, accurately coding expenses, and entering them into system for Manager review.
- Match purchase orders with invoices and receiving documents for accuracy and review open purchase orders at month end for the accrual entry.
- Utilize HUD's Voucher Management System (VMS) to run reports for tracking and reconciliation of HAP payments.
- Process HAP payments that go to landlords and log them into the accounting system, while ensuring payment data is correct, including utility reimbursement, before processing.
- This desk is also responsible for the monthly HAP payments related to the City of Bremerton Rental Assistance Program, and the Emergency Housing Voucher program.
Additional Functions
- Regularly back-up other Accounting Analyst desks.
- Regularly back-up the HAP Accounting Specialist desk.
- Update procedure manuals and provide training for new and existing staff in the department.
- Filing and other administrative tasks
- Other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education and Experience
Education: Currently enrolled in an Associate Degree Program, Field of Study: Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, preferred but can include General Studies, or other relevant subjects.
Experience:
- Prior internship, volunteer, or part-time experience in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field is preferred.
Bremerton Housing Authority has the discretion to accept any other equivalent combination of education and experience when relevant.
Computer Skills:
- Familiarity with MS Office programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Accounting software proficiency preferred.
This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, adding machines, photocopiers, and fax machines.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This is primarily an office position. The employee primarily sits at a desk but has the opportunity to move about at will. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate various types of office equipment. The employee will occasionally lift and carry up to 10 pounds.
