
Spiritual Life Director
Title: Spiritual Life Director
Nature: The Spiritual Life Director is responsible for the spiritual life and discipleship of the student body, with defined influence and responsibilities; this role operates in collaboration with the President, Principals, and faculty.
Spiritual Leadership & Oversight
- Chapel Program Oversight:
- Develop a year-long, biblically sound, and theologically rich chapel calendar for both campuses, to be approved by the President.
- Serve as chapel speaker once monthly at both campuses, while prioritizing quality Bible teaching from local pastors, list to be approved by the President.
- Coordinate logistics (room setup, A/V, music, student roles) and coach student-led elements.
- Support students in preparing their hearts and expectations for chapel as a meaningful act of worship, not just attendance.
- Student Discipleship:
- Launch and lead a cross-campus discipleship framework, with a focus on small group ministry, to be approved by the President.
- Recruit, train, and mentor volunteer student leaders (primarily 10th–12th grades) for peer-led discipleship groups.
- Facilitate regular check-ins and accountability structures for small group leaders.
- Leverage chapel content and classroom instruction to inform small group discussions.
- Bible Instruction:
- Teach upper-level Bible courses for 10th–12th graders, increasing theological clarity in academic curriculum.
- Coordinate curriculum selection in partnership with the Principal(s) and President, ensuring doctrinal alignment with Agape’s Statement of Faith, and driving and leading towards clarity on secondary doctrinal matters.
- Spiritual Counseling:
- Serve as a pastoral resource to students, offering one-on-one spiritual encouragement and gospel counsel (not formal discipline).
- Receive shepherding handoffs from principals related to behavioral/disciplinary concerns (principals autonomously own behavioral/disciplinary concerns). The principal is responsible for the decisions and administration of consequences for student behavior, the director of discipleship being involved in helping disciple the student's heart in the process and/or the follow up with the student.
- Offer a visible, shepherding presence towards students during lunch, breaks, and transitions, prioritizing organic relational engagement.
- Execute on the Board’s vision through the President’s leadership by collaborating on and carrying out strategic initiatives and changes.
Mission Trips, Retreats, and Special Events
- Mission/Service Trips Leadership:
- Lead and spiritually shape the El Salvador trip (12th grade) and Westside Cleveland mission (11th grade), while working closely with administrative staff for logistical execution.
- Create, design, and execute opportunities for the 7th-10th graders to serve in the community and have exposure to various parachurch ministries and organizations.
- Create, design, and execute on serving opportunities as applicable and possible with 1st-6th graders to provide preliminary exposure to missional responsibilities as believers.
- Ensure all trip components—from team training to debrief—are saturated with gospel purpose, theological reflection, and student growth goals.
Retreats & Spiritual Emphasis Days
- Design and execute 1–2 Spiritual Emphasis Days per year with a focus on corporate worship, teaching, and personal reflection.
- Work with faculty and local partners to deliver creative and biblically faithful content (breakouts, testimonies, panel discussions, etc.).
- Incorporate spiritual formation moments during key school-wide events (banquets, dedication days, graduation) as appropriate.
Partnership with Families & Churches

Parent Engagement:
- Support parents in their role as primary disciplers through availability, encouragement, and occasional workshops or resources, in alignment with the Principal(s) and President.
- Provide spiritual guidance during student crises or major life moments (e.g., grief, divorce, identity issues), in alignment with the Principal(s) and President.

Church Relations:
- Cultivate meaningful partnerships with local pastors in conjunction with the President, reinforcing Agape’s role as a feeder and partner, not a replacement.
- Maintain a database of local church affiliations among students; encourage student church participation and pastoral involvement when appropriate.
Program Infrastructure & Administrative Collaboration

Student Music Development:
- Shepherd student-led music teams to lead chapel with biblical and theological integrity and musical excellence.
- Provide pastoral guidance on song selection and training on leading music in worship, under the President’s leadership.

Team Integration:
- Serve as an advisor and collaborator within Agape Christian Academy’s leadership team:
- Maintain weekly check-ins with the President and attend staff/leadership meetings as requested.
- Coordinate proactively with campus Principals to divide care responsibilities and ensure clarity in who handles what (e.g., discipline vs. discipleship).
- Documentation, Reporting & Evaluation:
- Track engagement, small group participation, and discipleship impact for accountability and growth.
