Research Assistant – Sports History Podcast (Sportly)
Are you a passionate sports fanatic with a nose for a good story? Do you live and breathe sports history and want to help shape compelling, narrative-driven audio journalism?
Sportly, a weekly sports history podcast hosted by award-winning journalist Kavitha Davidson, is seeking a Sports Journalism Researcher to join our team. This is a unique opportunity for aspiring journalists, journalism students, and sports lovers with a strong research instinct and storytelling drive.
What You’ll Do:
Stay up-to-date on current sports news, trends, and archival moments that connect to today’s conversations
Pitch thoughtful, timely, and unique episode ideas rooted in history and cultural context
Conduct thorough research using primary sources, academic archives, interviews, and trusted publications
Fact-check and source narrative-style scripts for accuracy and depth
Collaborate closely with producers and the host to bring each weekly episode to life
Who You Are:
A journalism student, early-career journalist, or sports researcher with a deep knowledge of and enthusiasm for sports
Detail-oriented, curious, and proactive in sourcing credible information
Familiar with narrative non-fiction, podcasting, or longform journalism
Comfortable working in a deadline-driven, collaborative environment
Bonus if you have experience with archival research, audio journalism, or fact-checking
Time Commitment:
Part-time, remote. Estimated 5–8 hours/week with flexible scheduling.
