
Rail Maintenance Admin Intern
The Rail Maintenance Admin Intern will be working with colleagues from car houses and Everett Main Repair on various vehicle-related projects. Interns will learn vehicle systems and their operation, including processes used to second-source parts, learning to read data sheets, and engineering processes for measurement and recording of data to validate engineering tests.
The most qualified (or ideal) candidates would be enrolled in a Bachelor’s program with an engineering focus (electrical, mechanical, electronic, or computer), at least one year of experience in project management / administration and Microsoft office skills, and above average analytical skills. We are looking to hire one intern, who will work five days on-site / in-office (40 hours per week) for three months.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Document re-build processes at Everett Shop.
- Document test procedures.
- Work on the process of second-sourcing materials and on the MBTA’s RFID program.
- Work with car house staff and engineers to learn vehicles and the operation of various systems.
- Take wheel measurements and work on flange angle tasks currently taking place in the MBTA Vehicle Maintenance department.
- Participate in team / staff meetings, organization events, fieldwork, project teams, or other duties as needed.
- Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned.

Minimum Education
- Enrolled, for entire duration of employment, in the Bachelor’s degree program of an accredited college / university in one of the following fields:
- Mechanical Engineering / Mechanical Engineering Technology
- Electrical Engineering / Electrical Engineering Technology
- Electronic Engineering / Electronic Engineering Technology
- Computer Engineering
Minimum Experience and Required Skills
- Experience in project administration or coordination duties.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and database applications).
- Above average organizational, analytical, time management and multi-tasking skills.
- Ability to gather information by examining records and documents.
- Ability to independently commute to assigned work locations in the Boston, MA metro area, as required by the role.
- Authorized to work in the United States (international students in CPT, STEM, or OPT programs through a university are eligible to apply).
