JOB TITLE: Principal – Muskegon Area Career Tech Center
CLASSIFICATION: Administrative
REPORTS TO: Director of CTE
SUPERVISES: Professional teaching staff, paraprofessionals, and student services staff.
GENERAL JOB FUNCTION:
The Principal supervises the Muskegon Area Career Tech Center's day-to-day program operations, evaluates staff performance, and oversees staff and program development. The CTC Principal is the instructional leader for all Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs offered at the CTC and ensures the delivery of competency-based instruction and learning.

TERMS:
This position is a 260 total paid days position offering single subscriber medical, dental, and vision benefits. Dental, vision, and life insurance are paid by the district at no cost to the employee. Vacation, personal business days, holidays and sick time paid. Retirement through the Office of Retirement Services (Pension Plus or Defined Contribution).
SALARY RANGE:
This position is on the nonunion, salary scale W, $104,115.34-$137,100.18 per year.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Supervise and evaluate professional staff, paraprofessionals, and clerical staff assigned to the Muskegon Area Career Tech Center.
2. Participate in staff interviews and hiring procedures.
3. Provide leadership in meeting the needs of diverse educators and student populations in CTE programs.
4. Lead the implementation of a school-wide MTSS framework focused on academic, behavioral, and social-emotional supports. Oversees the student discipline process in conjunction with the CTC Dean of Students.
5. Oversees curriculum development and staff professional learning with the CTC Curriculum and Instruction coordinator.
6. Monitor budgets and ensure that established financial procedures are followed.
7. Assume responsibility for collecting and reporting data for the Muskegon Area Career Tech Center CTEIS pupil accounting process.
8. Ensure that all programming is conducted according to applicable State and Federal laws, rules, regulations, etc. Oversee student leadership opportunities for all CTC programs to ensure they meet the requirements for state-approved CTE programs.
9. Build relationships of trust, respect, and productive interactions with staff, students, and other groups served by the Career Tech Center. Ensure that the Industry Advisory Committee members are active within the CTC programs and provide relevant guidance to all CTC programs.
10. Promote and support WBL experiences (such as internships, apprenticeships, and industry mentorships) across programs.
11. Oversees the marketing of CTE programs and achievements to parents, districts, and the community to foster awareness, support, and student recruitment.
12. Provide leadership to the building leadership team and other committees to guide strategic planning work and monitor progress toward goals.
13. Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities assigned by the Director of CTE.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. No physical or mental restrictions that would, with reasonable accommodation, prevent performance of the essential job functions and responsibilities.
2. Possession of a Master's degree in Educational Leadership (Vocational Education preferred).
3. Possession of a Michigan teaching certificate.
4. Approval and/or ability to obtain approval as a Vocational Administrator through the Michigan Department of Education Office of Career & Technical Education.
5. Experience facilitating adult professional learning and working in collaborative, continuous improvement models for school buildings.
6. Is proficient in using technology for instruction, student management, and assessment.
7. Skilled in administrative and supervisory techniques, fiscal management, curriculum development, and evaluation.
8. Strong planning/organizational skills, and both verbal and written communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. A minimum of three years of successful teaching (CTE experience preferred).
2. Demonstrated leadership in education programs, implemented instruction and curriculum best practices, and built-level administration in nontraditional educational settings (CTE preferred).
3. Experience working in a culturally diverse environment with a deep understanding of the implications of the work.

NOTABLE PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Some light lifting and general mobility around the campus area are frequently necessary.
TYPICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in a school office, classroom environment and in other MAISD buildings. Most work is performed at the Muskegon Area Career Tech Center campus.
EVALUATION:
Employees in this classification are evaluated according to current Board policy.

TRAVEL EXPECTATIONS:
Some travel may be expected both locally and within the state.

This position is on Grade W of the MAISD salary scales.
