AV Technician Intern
Position Summary: The AV Technician Intern supports the planning, setup, operation, and maintenance of audiovisual (AV) systems for internal events, operations, and field deployments at Liberty Alliance. This intern will gain experience working with professional AV hardware and software – particularly BirdDog NDI, camera systems, and networked AV solutions. This is a hands-on technical role for individuals pursuing a career in event technology, broadcast systems, or AV/IT integration. POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Setup, test, and break down AV systems for live and recorded events
- Operate and troubleshoot BirdDog cameras, NDI systems, and switching tools
- Assist with cable runs, connector terminations, and signal routing
- Build and test patch cables; use tools like RJ45 testers
- Support event production (audio, visual, lighting, streaming)
- Maintain AV inventory, assist with equipment tracking, labeling, and storage
- Mounting displays, monitors, and projectors, including calculating viewing distances
- Collaborate with software/DevOps teams for system and event integrations
- Apply best practices for AV networking, including STP vs. UTP and NDI over IP
- Document configurations and assist in AV system diagram updates
- Completes all other tasks and duties as needed to help drive Liberty Alliance’s Vision, fulfill our Mission, and abide by our organization’s values.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Pursuing or recently completed a degree in a related field
- Experience with BirdDog, NDI, OBS, or VMix
- Knowledge of AV over IP, Dante, or SDVoE standards
- Familiarity with cable types: Cat 5/6, HDMI, XLR, SDI
- Understanding of Ohm’s Law, basic rack power calculations, or electrical safety
- Comfort using multimeters and cable testers
- Prior work with live events or productions
- Basic familiarity with AV components (displays, projectors, cameras, audio mixers)
- Ability to follow simple or complex directions and safely use hand tools
- Team-focused, dependable, and organized
- Eagerness to learn and take initiative
- Excellent attention to detail, time management, and communication skills.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be physically able to operate various machines and equipment, including computers, office equipment, telephones, etc. Physical demands are essentially those of sedentary work. Tasks may require extended periods at a keyboard or workstation. Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at times.
