Reentry Paralegal
Legal Aid Societyhas an immediate opening for a ReentryParalegal Position in its Nashville office. This positionwill support casework aimed at addressing legal barriers experienced by people reentering society after incarceration across the Middle Tennessee service area. The paralegal will conduct intake for new cases and provide case handling and case management assistance to lawyers in the Nashville and Oak Ridge offices. This position will also conduct outreach activities about Legal Aid Society and reentry topics for low-income people, organizations, and agencies and assist in organizing reentry- focused clinics in the community. This position is funded in part by, and in collaboration with, one or more grants. This position is funded for the duration of the grant and subsequent renewal may result in modification of job duties and responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
Prepare affidavits, petitions, legal correspondence, and other documents for review by case handlers.
Promptly and accurately assistcase handlers with client meetings, research, case management, filings, and other tasks.
Create and maintain positiveworking relationships with organizations in the servicearea and statewhich would benefit the client population.
Participate in the firm’scommunity education programby being available to speak with community groupsand agency staff, suggesting ideas for and helping to prepare and update community education materials.
Maintain accurate and orderlyclient files, adheringto case management database policies and guidelines. Support the casework of attorneys as assigned.
Manage intake, prepare files, and organize the day-to-day flow of reentry clinic events.
Qualifications:
Minimum High School diploma or GED. Associate's degree or paralegal certificate preferred.
2 years priorexperience working in a law office, court,social service agency,or other relevantsetting preferred. Experience working with low-income people.
Basic proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel software.
Effective oral and writtencommunication skills, including in client interviews and helping peoplein crisis. Proficiency in the use of office equipment (copiers, scanners, facsimile, postage machine, etc.).
Fluency in written and spoken Spanishis a plus. Driver's license and reliable transportation.
