
Inclusive Design Intern (Adaptive Spaces for Special Needs)
We are seeking passionate and creative Design or Architecture students to assist with inclusive, sensory-informed space planning for faith-based and educational programs. This is a paid opportunity with a stipend of $100–$150 per completed project, ideal for students looking to gain portfolio experience and contribute to meaningful work in the community.
Responsibilities
- Design visual layouts and concepts for adaptive early childhood classrooms and care areas
- Provide mockups, traffic flow, and furnishing recommendations for small, flexible spaces
- Collaborate with our consulting team to incorporate developmental and accessibility guidelines
- Assist in drafting or refining existing floorplans
- Prepare visual presentations using Canva, SketchUp, AutoCAD, or similar tools
- (Optional) Join virtual client meetings for feedback and revisions
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a degree program for Architecture, Interior Design, or related fields
- Ability to translate verbal needs into visual mockups or basic layout designs
- Proficient in design tools (e.g., Canva, SketchUp, AutoCAD, Adobe Illustrator)
- Strong communication, organization, and creative problem-solving skills
- Empathy-driven mindset with interest in inclusive or trauma-informed design
Preferred Experience
- Exposure to early childhood design, accessibility standards, or universal design
- Knowledge of sensory-friendly materials
- Familiarity with working in nonprofit or community-centered spaces
