About the Down Syndrome Association of Central Florida
DSACF is the leading voice for all individuals with Down syndrome and their families. We offer hope, encouragement and acceptance through advocacy, education and awareness as we guide individuals with Down syndrome through life’s transitions. Together, we create a Central Florida community composed of and dedicated to individuals with Down syndrome – and those who love them – so that each may realize their potential.
Position Description
DSACF is seeking currently enrolled college students to serve as a Special Event intern. Ideal candidate is an undergraduate student majoring in event management, hospitality, or hospitality management. Ideal candidates will possess leadership skills, be detail oriented, organized and creative and possess a professional work ethic and be enthusiastic to gain new knowledge in a nonprofit that is event-centric with major events throughout the year lead by an expert at Special Events.
Specific Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Support Development Manager by taking a leadership role with the logistics of DSACF's two major special events including the Step Up for Down Syndrome Walk & Down to Party Gala.
· Assist and manage volunteers during events
· Communicate with DSACF members through channels such as email, newsletters and phone calls
· Assist with donor CRM and Walk database
· Assists on-site in a leadership role during special events
Qualifications
· Must be required for college credit.
· Excellent written and verbal communication, strong editing skills
· Self-motivated, detail-oriented with strong written, verbal & organizational skills
· Excellent computer skills with experience in social media, Microsoft Office & Excel
· The ability to work independently and with others
· Dependability, flexibility, and ability to maintain confidentiality
· The ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
· Openness to learning and growing within the internship experience
· Embraces the culture of DSACF and is passionate about our mission and the individuals we serve
Student Benefits
This internship will allow the student to bring their classroom knowledge into a professional work setting and broaden their knowledge through hands-on application in a nonprofit environment.

Location & Hours
Specific days and number of hours are flexible and is part-time office and part-time virtual.
The internship is based out of the DSACF’s main office in Winter Park, FL. Attendance at the special event that falls during the internship period is required. Monthly committee meetings in the evening would be requested.
