What I liked

My coworkers honestly made the entire experience. I also love makeup, so it was a nice fit for me. The job allows me to grow in knowledge on all things beauty, which I really appreciate. The shifts were also nice, because the longest I was ever scheduled was for 6.5 hours.

What I wish was different

As is the case with all retail jobs, the customers, at times, were really mean. If I could change their attitudes, I certainly would.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions--it's honestly better if you do.

Lead Cashier

December 2018 • Epping, NH

What I liked

I love the environment and my co-workers. We are very close and it feels like a family. All management listens to your individual needs and makes you feel important to the team. They work well together in all sorts of situations, including stress-inducing scenarios. The scheduling is also flexible and management understands everybody has their own life going on outside of work. They value mental and physical health.

What I wish was different

I wish the communication between store managers and the district manager had been stronger and more understanding. At one point we had two associates working more than one day a week and the district leadership did little to nothing to individually help our store.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share is everybody here are adults and they're very understanding. Don't be afraid to talk about what's going on, whether its to management or to another co-worker. We all work together to make your job something you look forward to.

What I liked

I liked that I was given task jobs in addition to cashiering so I could use the different skills I have.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had been trained more on store processes and management had been more organized. Often times, I would be performing a task in one way that a manager suggested, but then told I was doing it wrong by another manager.

Advice

I would suggest being firm and fulfilling only the responsibilities and obligations that are called to you. For example, I was always taking shifts in the summer, and this soon turned into assumptions being made about my schedule when school began. It felt like I was being taken advantage of when I was saying yes and it turned into a schedule I couldn't handle. It felt like other workers did not want to help out, and many shifts would go unfilled.
