I liked the collaborative environment that the company provided. I also enjoyed the lessons that I was able to learn through very meaningful experiences provided to me as an Intern.
What I wish was different
I wish that I was assigned more tasks rather than filing for majority of my internship.
Advice
I would say that it is important to have time management when dealing with the projects that you are given.

Summer Maintenance Tech II

What I liked
Great pay, great coworkers, great company, good to get my foot in the door.
What I wish was different
Some of my job responsibilities near the end of the summer job became overbearing.
Advice
If you don't mind hiking through mesquite trees and tall grass, helping the surveyor is a great experience. If you're looking for something else, helping the inspectors or maintenance is also great.

Summer Maintenance Tech
June - August 2018 • Corpus Christi, TX
What I liked
I worked as a mechanic helper at TxDOT's shop for three months this summer.I learned so many things that I never learned in school before. I am always into automotive, so this 3 months job was the best I could find to familiarize myself with cars, trucks and even heavy equipment. In addition, my coworkers are unbelievably amazing. Not only did they solve the problem in front of me, they also showed me the step by step solutions to it. In TxDOT, I learned how important safety is. Employees are not allowed to be in the shop without their gears on. Overall, spending my summer time in TxDOT was very lovely and I'd like to do it again next summer if I have the chance
What I wish was different
Not applicable for me
Advice
I would say that as a new hire, we should never be too afraid to ask. I could imagine how hard my job could have been if I was scared to ask even a stupid question. Asking question will limit and even prevent us from making mistakes. Also for the supervisors, they have to be lenient and understandable when it comes to new hires.
