I liked the very close proximity to the college. It is very convenient to switch between work and classes.

I wished that the job offered more knowledge on the products we were selling when I was first starting out.
Advice
Always be polite to the customers, even when they give you a hard time. It can be difficult to keep your composure under stressful situations, but you must always put your best foot forward and give the customer the best experience possible.

What I liked
I really liked the freedom they grant you. Most responsibilities given to you are tasked to be done at your own pace within your own way of doing things. You also get to interact with people outside the store by getting to drive the company truck to different businesses.
What I wish was different
I really wish more hours could be granted to part time employees instead of being capped at a certain amount for months.
Advice
Have a business mindset, for you will close many sales calls with people you barely know. Also, be ready to learn because the Industrial Supplies Industry is endless of product knowledge you will need to know the ins and outs about.

What I liked
The competitive pay is a huge upside of working in the warehouse for Fastenal. It's very hands on and very physically demanding which I really enjoyed, rather than sitting at a desk or busing tables.
What I wish was different
I wish longer hours were available rather than working every day for just 4 hours. Perhaps a different schedule that could be available to accept that is flexible to all workers, longer shifts for those that desire it, something like that.

Go in with an open mind and willingness to work hard for your pay.

The job posting required the student to be pursuing an accounting degree but I never did anything that utilized my coursework. A better requirement would have been advanced excel skills.

This internship gives you a great opportunity to expand your Microsoft Excel skills and time management skills.

The interview process was super quick. They ended up hiring me within 1-2 weeks. I like working at Fastenal because they allow me to have a flexible work schedule (as a college student) and also a very good hourly wage. Of course you must work hard and work fast for this position but it's totally worth it.
